Turkish Packology

Plastic packaging applications produced in Turkey include, stretch films, shrink films, pallet covers, bags, sachets, big bags, threads, solid and liquid thermoform food-beverage containers, bottles for carbonated and non-carbonated beverages, industrial barrels, containers for detergents and cosmetics, foam containers and packaging forms. 55% of these packaging products are flexible and 45% are hard, by volume.

Plastic packaging is really taking off, and its use is constantly increasing. Turkey is the world’s second largest exporter of FIBC (Flexible Intermediate Bulk Containers). The total capacity of the plastic packaging sector in Turkey is 1 million tons. There are 11 plastic packaging companies which are among Turkey’s top 500 companies. In 2007, plastic packaging materials are on the lead in exports in the packaging sector with a share of 75%. The total export value of these packaging products reached almost 1,5 billion dollars in 2007. The sector exported mainly to England, Germany, Ukraine, and the Russian Federation.
